For a more resilient grass seed that can tolerate heavy foot traffic, consider purchasing tall fescue or perennial ryegrass. For repairing small patches of dead grass, look to use a fast-growing seed that will introduce new grass seed to your space and fertilizers that will help your grass to germinate at a faster rate.
Choosing Grass by Climate and Sunlight
There are two types of grass—warm-season and cool-season. Where you live will influence what grass seed you plant. Those in northern regions with cold winters and moderate summers should grow cool-season grasses, while warm-season grasses grow best in hot weather, possess drought resistant qualities and are found throughout the south. For regions in-between, a seed mix of the two types of grasses produces the best results.
